Gion Duck Rice

Located in Kyoto's Gion neighborhood,
Gion Duck Rice is easily accessible by foot
from Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Yasaka Shrine.
It's a wonderful location for a quick visit in between tourist spots.

Duck meat is soft and typically sweet.
The duck meat is the main highlight of the dish, of course.
It is soft and moist, and the longer you chew it,
the more its natural sweetness spreads. It tastes wonderful with white rice,
isn't too oily, and has a complex flavor.

Included in the set is a soup made with bonito stock.
The flavor is rich and unique, adding to the duck's umami.
Various condiments and cool pickles are also provided with it.
There are three different kinds of condiments,
such as yuzu and pepper, so you can experiment
with seasoning it to your liking.
Additionally, the staff will carefully explain each item
and the best way to eat it, giving foreigners
and new customers peace of mind.

There's more to this restaurant than just its flavor.
Overall, the presentation is quite unique because it is like a tiny laboratory.
• A wooden box is used to serve the rice.
• A glass funnel is used to hold the bonito.
• In a different teapot is the steaming hot soup.
When it's ready to eat, you pour the hot soup into
the tube by yourself, then use the bonito to extract the broth.
The taste of freshly prepared, warm soup is a remarkable experience,
and this small effort is satisfying.

It costs between 2,000 and 4,000 yen per person.
Looking at the menu and the location in Gion, this makes perfect sense.

Although reservations are not needed,
the restaurant often gets full due to its popularity.
We advise avoiding busy lunch and dinner
hours if you want to avoid long lines.

Having the option to tour on foot after visiting
a temple or shrine is another great benefit.
After your breakfast, we also suggest having a relaxing
stroll around the narrow paths and old homes of Gion.
It is very special to spend time in a townscape
that still has the feel of the Edo era.

While seeing Kyoto, why not stop and have some delicious duck rice?
Your journey will be more enjoyable if you have such a moment.

Please give it a try, I really recommend it!
