TAWARA-AN
Tawara-an is a Kyomachiya
that was renovated in the 30th Meiji era (1897).
Located south of the Kyoto Imperial Palace,
Kyoto craftsmen have lived here for generations,
and has a long history as a workshop.
120-year-old Kyomachiya.
While utilizing the structure that was previously used
as a workshop for imperial family seals,
Its renovations exude
the fresh air of the modern era.
This building has a total floor area of 280 ㎡.
In order to renovate and make it a ryokan,
According to the Inns and Hotels Act,
because the entire building is made
of noncombustible materials.
It needs to be refurbished.
It was a situation in which there was
no other option but to dismantle.
In a way to overturn the common sense of real estate companies,
and to clear the current legislation,
also realizing the conservation of this rare historic building,
the previous owner,
reduce the total floor area to less than 200 ㎡.
With the support of Kyoto City and local people,
Also supported by the ambition and enthusiasm
of the former carpenters and gardeners,
It has reborn as "Tawara-an," an accommodation facility
where you can feel the deep history of Kyoto.
